  1. DVDDecrypter 3.1.4.0 has an issue with Liteon (witnessed with 165H & 166S ) drives that causes it to fail the brute force attack on some files. The files get skipped and/or a message is displayed saying it could not find the key.

Usually the rip can be retried several times to get it to finally rip the skipped files. However in some cases it will not rip the files in which case another program such as smartripper is used to rip the missing files, or another drive can be used with DVDDecrypter.

The author of the program is aware of the issue and will have a work around in the next build.

I have tried the -right click on the drive and Authenticate- prior to starting the rips but this does not always seem to help.

** My question is has anyone found a good work around in the mean time? **

  2. My work around has been the same as you have found. I use Smartripper on the disks that have this problem.

When you are "Right Clicking" and selecting "Authenticate", make sure you do this for one file at a time. Authenticate the file, then rip it, Authenticate the next file, then rip it. And so on... (You only need to do this for the .VOB files.)

I have a Liteon LTD-166 and I have been using this method for a while and it seems to work every time.

    Best Regards.

  4. I had the same problem with my 166s out of the box. Flashed firmware to the latest version (ds14) and so far so good. Even re-ripped a couple discs that did not work for me the first time without any problems. Can always use my burner to rip as a last resort if needed (2x locked).
