  1. Does anyone know what brand the factory installed Rear Seat Entertainment System in a 2003 Ford Expedition is? (Haven't been able to find this info out through ford.com or the dealership.)

I'd like to play a format other than DVDs and CDs on the system but haven't stumbled across anything compatible yet.

  2. Have you had any success with finding out which DVD player is in the 2003 Expedition? I have tried several DVD rippers and media, maybe 5% success...

    Thanks, Steve

  3. I found out the type of DVD player back in December but have since forgotten the name... Sorry! It was a player listed in this forum and showed zero compatability with any VCD format.

I haven't been able to play back anything other than original DVDs/CDs in the player. What format were you using successfully?

  4. Also, rumor has it that it may be a VCD from Audiovox...

  5. I found out today that it is a Delphi unit and that it does NOT support ANY DVD-R or CD-R media! What a crime... To pay $1500 for this DVD option and have so many restrictions!

well $2000+ Bose system will not play dvd-r or dvd+r or cd's either so dont feel to bad .. if you want to get really mad .. a Bang and Olfsen system ($4000) will not play anything but stamped dvd 's either ..

but in a car - it would sure make sense to only bring backups of your dvd's as they will either melt or die in a car interior anyway .. im sure ford didnt think of this to hard when they designed these players.

  7. I think Bose and B&O are hedging their bets that the people who can afford their systems will also actually buy dvd's instead of burn "backups".

  8. $1500 for a in car DVD player !!!

you can buy them for $250, they are the size of a standard after market single DIN radio and play everthing and anything.....they are basically computer DVD-ROM/CD-ROM drives outfitted for 12VDC, they also play MP3's.

I am not familiar with Delphi, but Land Rover subcontracts out to where I work and we charge them about $400 for DVD plus installation and they turn around and charge 3-5 times that.....

Moral of the story: dont buy that stuff from the dealer.....get it from an aftermarket dealer.

In the 2003 factory installed unit it is made by delphi. The dealer installed units are usually made by audiovox. Audiovox made the factory installed units for the 2001 and 2002. I called our authorized repair company and this was the info he passed on to me.

Audiovox was never known for high quality ASAK ... at least the unit that came as OEM/factory installed in my truck was crap (and still is) .
