I know they have 3.5 CDs (mini CDs) that hold around 180MB. Using the same size, how much do you think a DVD would hold?

I believe that nintendo's new system the gamecube is going to use that size dvd media and I can't remember the exact amount but it is about just over a gig and not dual layer either
-
Nintendo's disks for the Crapcube will only hold 1 gig. What the h-e-l-l is that Xbox will have DVDs and the same for PS2 does that not mean that the games will be bigger. If the games are bigger for Xbox and PS2 why would you even bother with the Crapcube?

Because the 12 and under kids DEMAND their Mario!!
the same thing that killed every other decent system in the last decade (with the exception of Sony stuff)
It just seems like whenever a console/software maker has the audacity to make a game that doesn't feel like an episode of the TELETUBBIES, it is squished under the bootheels of the infant majority. Sickening.

ps2 can use dvds so you will get more levels and/or higher defenition pictures.
i've also heard of games with true doley surround. -
well lets think about it from nintendo's POV... whats their main concern??? Piracy, thats what. And there may well be a way of copying one of their little discs onto a CDR, but then how the hell are you gonna put it into the gamecube???
to my mind, thats smart thinking

Piracy is always a concern for companies, especially now since damn near EVERYTHING is pirated. I think Nintendo's new 3.5 disc games (1 Gig discs) will still be pirated no matter what. It's all a matter of time.
Frankly, I'm just concerned about is the gamecube going to be a decent system? Is it going to have a full genre of games unlike the crapper Nintendo 64 which lacked *REAL* RPGs? (Other than Zelda, don't want to start a war)
And size isn't everything PimpInDaHouse, remember alot of PS2 games are NOT DVDs.

I would say size is every thing because why would you by a $50 Mario game that is small when you can go by Halo that will be huge. Anyways the Nintendo 3.5 discs were made to be cheaper and because of piracy, they got the piracy down but what about the price it is $50 dollars like both the other system. I think it is stupid to pay the same price for a smaller game. I will not buy the Gamecube because of disk size and the age group for the system is like 6-18 meaning less complex games. The only game I want to play is Metroid but I will laugh when my friends buy the system and it is sitting in the corner gathering dust like my N64 because the Xbox has all the bomb games coming out for it. Just my thoughts what do others think? If you are planning to buy any of these systems which are you going to buy?

i own ps2 and it is a really good system. i enjoy the backwards compatibility with 99 percent of ps1 games.
it's also a nice dvd player, capable of both narrow and broadband connections.
it will feature the 40gig hard drive which is really just an idie hdd in a casing.
ps2 games are a little more expensive because you have to know what your doing when you program ps2 games. they require better programers to understand their more complex os.
but they have an extra 3 gigs to store data, video, audio.
-
so a ps2 or xbox may have bigger storage space, but who said that the developers are gonna make the games any bigger??? especially cross platform games which will come out on all three systems, they arent gonna make the GC version smaller....
-
well actually they can include full pre-rendered mpeg 2 dvd videos.
also at least with final fantasy, the space is used.
4cds on playstation 2 becomes 1 ps2 dvd.
also the dvd features faster load times.
he makes a good point that although nintendo has latly tried to catch some older audiences, the core of n64 games where mostly for 1-12.
i wonder if it worth mentioning but nintendo has always seem overconcerned with piracy and have always leaned towards smaller forms of data storage.
ps1 cd at 650megs
n64 rom at 64 megs.
true that the rom loads faster, but the rom cannot hold as much data.

dont get ahead of yourselves... PS2 still havent proven a game to look better than soul calibur yet! PS2 was rushed, and even sony know it (have you seen the HDD crapifial?) i have personally seen the gamegube in action, and i must say its starting to smell like the 80's again.... good old fashion addictive FUN!!!! anyone remember that word? the starwars game alone will bury the PS2 lol by the way the small DVD disc can hold 2 gig (1 half of the big one) as told by one of the dickhead bigwigs at warner home video. my apex $99 blowout unit do way more than the PS2 gimmicky one.i want a dedicated video game machine, not a half ass one that need room for all these stupid DVD and PC features!
-
yes, but then when i spend £30 on a game, i'd rather it wasn't 55% FMV and 45% game.....

I said the disk holds 1 gig and Barnroyal said it holds 2 gig but we were both wrong it holds 1.5 gig I read it on ign.com.
