  1. I don't know how much you're willing to spend, but the ATI AIW Radeon is a great card. You can probably get it for around $100-$150 now.

  2. I have the AIW 7500, which gives very good quality captures and does everything you specify. If you want more zip in the graphics dept. there is the AIW 8500DV also with DV in.

I have a variaton of Hauppauge Win TV PCI (the win TV primio fm). I can use D-scaler.

There is an issue with this card: The field ordering ain't always as it is supposed to. You have to cheak all the time the field order of your avis if you don't like (bad) suprises. For typical analogue grabbing with vdub/huffyuv or PicVideo mjpeg and composite/s-video cabels, this card is OK. And it is very - very cheap also!

The PVR card is a new generation one, encodes direct to mpeg 2 and many users are happy with. I would never capture to mpeg 2 direct, I prefer encoding avis to mpeg, even if it is slow. But that maybe not be your case! In the way you asking, this card might be the best solution for you (and the use of 3rd party software...)

PINNACLE products are good ones, but they do exactly what they say and nothing more. That means that if the card state capture @ 352 X 288/240 then easy forget any other resolution. I don't know the situation with the newer products.

Do a search also on VCDhelps capture card list, in the left of your screen for user opinions of all those cards!

    Good luck with your choice!

  4. If you're capturing in AVI, then the Pinnacle PCTV pro can capture greater than 352x288, I regularly capture in 640x480 (Pal 25fps), using the Huffy codec no problems. I've never tried the other brands for comparison, so I can't comment on them. Apart from the standard Pinnacle complaints
ie:use 3rd party capture software like Virtual Dub,AVI_IO etc., I found it quite good.

  5. Hi
I just bought a pinnacle pctv pro video tuner capture card. It comes
with the capture card and the software to watch tv record from the tv your
video and from radio. I recorded a program from the tv last night no
problems. I am now using Pinnacle Studio 7 trial version to edit out
commercials etc. I will have to buy the full program. Also with this
tuner capture card you can record your vhs videos straight to mpeg form
ready to burn onto a cd. I havent had to download any drivers, codecs etc and I havent used virtualdub or any program like that. The only other
program I need to use is TMPGenc to convert my AVI file to Mpeg. I really
like the choice I made of tuner cards but its up to you depending on what you want to do.
    Hope this helps...

I picked up mine from a local shop - it was a special order for him from his local supplier. I hav not seen it in any major retail chain.

I would recommend you doing the same - find any local shop that carries MSI products and have them call their supplier for price and availability.

Oh, price was $90 CDN here in Calgary, Canada - about $55 USD.

I have a pctv. it is ok so long as you don't use the bundled s/w.

If I were to buy a new card now, I won;t get the pctv or any other card that uses the BT8x* chip. It is old tech. I'll go for MSI TV@nywhere or the FLyVideo2000.
