I have an avi file of my family thats been sent to me, the problem is there is a counter being displayed constantly. it's not in the black letterbox area but in the picture itself.
The question is how do i remove it i have virtualdub and tmpgenc. i realise i may have to buy some other software. If so what would be the easiest to use. And how do i go about removing it.
Any help that anyone could give me is greatly appreciated. and thanx for spending the time to help

The counter is not an overlay, it's part of the encoded video file. So there's really no way to remove it (you might as well ask how to remove your dog from the video).
However, you can try the logo blurring plugin for VDub. I've never tried/used it, but I know some people have had success 'removing' watermarks/logos with it.
You best bet is to get a copy of the source video w/o the counter in it, sorry.
