I have the canopus advc-50 capture card, and can only capture using MGI VideoWave 5. VirtualDub, Premier, WIndows Movie Maker... do not even get preview window of video. Setup is: VCR to Canopus via RCA cables, canopus to computer via firewire (have tried 2 differant cards). VideoWave 5 is ok, but I know I'm missing something here... besides the fact that even VirtualDub doesn't work...
Any ideas?![]()

I hope that you may have sorted things out now, but when I first got my Canopus advc-50, I got much the same response. I too tried a couple of Firewire cards which did solve things at first but then went back to its old problems.
What I discovered was that with WMM, video would only be captured if I used it straight after turning on my PC, otherwise I would get a corrupt file.
The only software that I get a preview with and works (nearly) all the time is Pure Motion Capture bundled with Edit Studio 2. Having said that, if i stop capturing a file I loose the preview.
VirtualDub does not record from Canopus.Cole
