Have you checked SVCD on a Macintosh memo and cookbook and the preconfigured MediaPipe templates:
<http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/SVCD_on_a_Macintosh.txt>
<http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/~shmhav/MediaPipe_templates.sit>
MMT is also a nice GUI to MediaPipe. When you click the CLI option in MMT it only opens a Terminal window and MediaPipe's CLI tools within it.
FFmpeg X is also a very nice GUI front-end to mpeg2enc but I couldn't get older versions to work properly with PAL material. The current version requires Mac OS 10.2 so I haven't tested it yet. -
I would try ffmpegx if i were you, and read the ffmpegx manual in the mac video forum. I don't know if ffmpegx can do what you want, but it can't hurt to give it a shot.
Good luck!! -
do i need to do anything with the terminal window that opens? or does it just run in the background? ive never used the terminal before. i have developer tools july 2002 installed. do i need december 2002 installed? its a huge file. i called the apple store near me and they said "its not something they will distribute"/burn for me. but i can lug my imac g3 in there and use there t1 line to download the file. how long will that take? the file is 300mb. i geuss ill do it if i have to.
thanks for the replies, but please keep them coming, imgoing crazy. ill try the links. although i did download some svcd pipes and when i click on them project builder opens and i dont know what to do from there.

hi again!!
I know absolutly nothing about unix and the terminal, it just do stuff in the background after you hit the "encode" button. All i know is that ffmpegx left a perfect dvd movie with subs in a folder for me to use.
And if something goes wrong, there is allways a friendly ffmpex-expert willing to help out.
But i recommend you to read the ffmpegx manual sticky, in the mac video forum. -
i was able to get ffmpegx to produce output of my one minute test video in the right place and it looks/sounds good. i tried burning the .img files in toast cd-rom xa mode but my dvd player says "disc read error". i have burned vcds using toasts video cd option and playing them in my dvd player no problem. mmb will not recognize my usb iomega cdrw. is the problem with my dvd player? if it plays vcds shouldnt it also play svcds?
thanks for the help, im getting closer!!!
