  1. Pardon this horribly stupid question, nevertheless:

Let say you sucessfully backed-up movie X, and burned it.

Time goes by, you delete the original .vob files (or whatever method you used), and you want to make a back-up of your back-up from the DVD-R you recorded movie X to, and for arguments sake let's say the movie was compressed down from a DVD-9.

Now, considering OSeX (or whatever) has already removed whatever protection there must be, it would seem that you just back the DVD-R using Toast (or whatever) without any additional steps, and because this is all digital you would have no generational loss as it's a digital medium.

Am I thinking this through right?

Toast should work directly. However, if it does not you can use DVD Backup 1.3 (or a newer version) to rip the video_ts and audio_ts folders from the DVD-R you have on hand.

You do not need OSEx, DVD Backup, or any such software for this. You have already removed all CSS and macrovision protection. You can now just copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive in the Finder, and then to a new DVD in Toast, or use Toast in Copy mode if you have 2 DVD drives. You can also use Disk Copy to image and burn the DVD. And yes, there is no generational loss in copying, as long as the master doesn't get scratched. Keep a copy for archiving purposes, and don't touch it except to make more copies.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
