  1. Would I have any adavantage using the Canopus ADVC-100 for capturing from my DV camera? Is there any loss of quality plugging in directly to the firewire port? I have some home footage that is really dear to me, and want to conserve it in the best possible manner. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers,

There shouldn't be any loss in quality by plugging the camera directly into the firewire port (digital out = digital in.) There would be no advantage to plugging the camera into the ADVC-100. If you plug the camera into the ADVC-100 the quality won't get any better.
