will there ever be a time when software encoding will surpass hardware encoding? with computer processors getting faster and cheaper each year and encoding hardware essentially remaining out of budget for 'enthusiasts' it seems as though software is the way to go
what is your opinion on this? i still consider myself a newbie on this area so i was just wondering....

come on guys you can reply...this isn't a question about helping me solve my capture problems
it's to promote discussion -
surpass it in what way ? speed ? about the same now ... hardware still faster at the top end
quality ? you can get generally better quality from software encoding except thre top of the line hardware encoders (even then not always)
