  1. Hi,

I have some divX AVI with 384 x 284 pixels in size. I would like to convert them into (S)VCD so I can view them on my DVD player (I think whether VCD or SVCD doesn't matter - quality is not very good, c.f. resolution). I would like to stretch the video to fit the screen but the ratio should stay as it is (if necessary with black stripes).
But I don't know what settings I should use in TMPGenc for "source aspect ratio" and "Video arrange mode". Or do I have to change something else?

I already tried some combinations but everytime the ratio was screwed or on the right and on the left there were missing some parts, etc...

I hope you can help me

    THX!

Source aspect ratio for divx is ALWAYS 1:1

Video Arrange method should be full screen - keep aspect ratio

    Hope this helps

  3. THX for your reply. I tried already tried this.

When I switch my DVD-Player to "Letter Box" then there are two black bars on the top and on the bottom (which is not bad). But on the right and on the left side there is something missing and the ratio is not correct (people look fat)

When I switch my player to "Pan&Scan" then there are no bars at all but there are more parts of the image missing.

    What did I miss? THX

  4. On the Video settings tab, make sure the aspect ratio is 4:3, not 16:9.
AFAIK SVCD does not support a DAR of 16:9

  5. As you said, SVCD only supports 4:3, so I couldn't change anything.
I also tried NTSC instead of PAL, but the result is the same :/

Try using FitCD to come up with the correct scale. I have noticed that some DivX files are 1:1 and other are not. BTW: a good ratio for that size (384x288) is 352x240. In FitCD, check off the ITU box at the bottom and use ZERO blocks. It will not be letter boxed.

    Good Luck!

  7. Well, thx. But what should I do with FitCD then? This is just a calculator, isn't it? I have to convert the file with TMPGenc and which values are relevant? And what shall I do with them?

As far as the source aspect ratio in Tmpgenc is concerned, divx files are ALWAYS 1:1. That is because this aspect ratio refers to the aspect ratio of individual pixels, not the DAR or Display Aspect ratio. Tv's do not have square pixels, PC monitors do. Divx is is encoded for display on PC monitors and so is ALWAYS 1:1.

    Hope this helps.

  9. I've given it up. Now I began converting the AVIs into VCD instead of SVCD. There are still parts missing on every side but at least the ratio is the same.
It's ok as it is but it would be better if it were better, got it?

    THX for your help

FitCD produces an AVS file that is then loaded into TMPGEnc INSTEAD of the AVI file. This file describes to TMPGEnc how to encode the AVI into VCD, etc.

Goto http://www.kvcd.net and you will find your answers and the templates for the encoding. Here you will find THE BEST step by step guides https://www.videohelp.com/convert.

Between the 2 sites you will find it easy! 8)
    (well....usually easy!)
Thank You & Have a great Day! :)

Yes, true. I was confusing the 2. It really is not important if someone uses FitCD. It handles it all. I have noticed that I need to manually adjust some ratios, borders etc. Not everything is perfect in this world...
