  1. Using Windows 98SE I run into the 4GB ceiling. Trouble is I have multiple AVI files (about 30GB worth)that's one video that I want to turn into either a VCD or SVCD.

Is there any software that will accept batch processing or some other means where it will read these multiple AVI source files in sequence and create one seamless VCD or SVCD?

I'm trying Video Factory version 2, which is a nice editor however the rendering abilities are limited because for VCD MPEG it is resticed to a cheesy Ligos MPEG codec that simply isn't up to the task, quality wise and only supports a bit rate of 1856 and not SVCD at all. Can anyone make some suggestions other than switching operating systems?

  2. Can I assume that these multiple AVIs are from a single capure, spilt because the windows 2/4GB size limit?

    Two choices:

    1) If you want to link them all together to create one continious MPEG, then use AVIsynth to frameserve the AVIs to TMPGenc (or CCE). AVIsynth is fairly easy to use, but not well documented. Checkout:

read the "Avisynth tutorial" to get a feel. The command you want is UnalignedSplice.

    2) You can setup batch encoding with TMPGenc. This will generate several small MPEGs. Just setup each encode as you would normally, then:

    a. choose file | save project (make sure to give each encode a different output name)
    b. setup a project for each AVI file
    c. choose file | batach encode
    d. add files/project, add all your projects and hit run
    e. take long walk/nap
