that is the question. Mosty apps have the joilet box checked off as default for dvd burning, yet many people say to uncheck this box. using either my dvds play fine on everything tried, but i was just curious about it. Do you manily uncheck it or keep it checked?? thanks

Joliet provides a secondary description of the filenames, that doesn't have the restrictions of the ISO9660 (you can have longer filenames, with spaces or special characters in them). But standalone DVD players don't use that, only computers, so there's no reason to use Joliet on DVD Video.

but it will not make it an less incompatable to keep it checked will it? mainly im just concerned with the compatability issue, as i have heard some decks wont read/play the disc if joilet is checked

I can't answer if Joliet makes DVD video less compatible. In many standalones it doesn't matter, I have tried this. But there is no reason to use Joliet in a DVD video unless you add extra material.

all it does: Unchecking Joliet will DIS-ALLOW filenames in excess of 26 characters on the DISC in any material
I've never seen Joliet foul a DVD 's playability
