  1. Hi.

I'm almost done with this app, but was thinking of handing it over to Major to roll into ffmpegX.

Basically, it uses the *nix tools in ffmpeg, mpeg2enc, and some stuff I ported from linux to allow one to take a quicktime movie, and convert it to a single play dvd, at the highest quality possible for a DVD-r.

Sort of like a free Devideon.

If I put some more effort into it, it could actually work on a series of quicktimes, building a dvd with chapters. No menus howver

It also makes the video anamorphic if you spec that the input is 16:9...I have a widescreen tv so I like that sort of thing

The DVD's play great in standalones and VLC, but oddly not in Apple's OS X DVD Player...

I personally run the script itself from the term, since its faster and fairly straightforward, but I wrapped it in a GUI for a buddy.

As such, its not that fancy

My gui is in RB however, and is fully multithreaded...it doesn't spawn a term, but instead uses RB's shell class to run the *nix stuff is a couple of threads so it can interactively update the GUI.

I'm not really interested in developing it further, but I'd be glad to had over what I did for the benefit of others if Major wants to add it to ffmpeg.

Or does anyone even have an interest in this sort of thing?

This sounds great! Keep at it, or at least post what you have. I think that it sounds very useful for people trying to write a DVD. So many people seem bewildered at that point, especially if they don't have DVDSP.

    I hope Major is interested...

  3. I think I'm going to release this soon. It has come together better than I had hoped, and my private testers seem to like it, and have offered a couple of good suggestions that i've rolled in.

If you have Quicktime Mpeg2 playpack capability, it has a nifty preview as well.

I'm adding the ability to do avi->dvd tonight. This works great with avi's the quicktime won't play, eg XVID, but that are supported by vlc.

Once I get that in and (quickly) tested, I'll make it available for download.

of course, there is the whole stupid mpeg2enc licensing problem...you'll need to have a copy of the compiled binary in either your home folder, or /usr/bin.

I'll take care of it from there

  5. That app sounds terrific! I look forward to giving it a spin.

If I put some more effort into it, it could actually work on a series of quicktimes, building a dvd with chapters. No menus howver
What I would really like the mpeg2+audio->vob apps to do is generate output with chapters. I know DVDSP can do it if you add them manually - but I'm lazy and it would be really nice if you could ask for chapters every x minutes!

This sounds awesome! I can't wait for this. It would be really helpful for movies I have that weren't captured digitally.

Keep up the awesome work Kai!

  7. Ummm....heheh

I forgot ALL ABOUT this thing

I think ffmpegX does a waaaay better job of this, and had/have no intention of working further on it unless people *really* care.

I'm not even sure if i still have all of the *source code*, lol...look at the date of the original post
