Is it me, or has the speed and reliability of this web site deteriorated badly in the past month? Now half of my 'clicks' on the site get the 'Page cannot be displayed / cannot find server' message, and the other half take 10-20 seconds to load.

All my other web pages load quickly and my speed test gives:

Results from broadband speed test recorded on 12 February 2003 at 22:05:30.

    Downstream 385 Kbps (48.1 KB/sec) 415 Kbps (inc. overheads)
    Upstream 240 Kbps (30.0 KB/sec) 259 Kbps (inc. overheads)

    What's going on?

    Regards,

    Rob

  3. Ever since the move to dvdrhelp.com, it seems to be slower. Today I noticed it is slower than usual.

It may be the direct image link protection I recently added...will try to see how it works if I disable it.

I haven't made any other changes to the server when I only changed the name to dvdrhelp.

It doesn't seem to be the direct image link protection. The cpu load is almost always at 100%...even with few online users.

We have still huge problems with the server...we don't have that much more visitors now but the bandwidth is much higher.

Gil T Pleasure: check the first page...and scroll down a bit.

The search will be down for some days. At least until I have archived the forum posts, moved them to either static non searchable html pages or some other method.

  13. Baldrik,

Can't you keep at least this search ???

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/search.php?search_id=egosearch

This way I will be able at least find my old posts and review what was I about to test or what I promised to look at.

    Thanks.

More hardware memory didn't help increase the server performance that much. I also tried apache2 but it didn't work that well with latest php. So I have to delete posts....but I don't know yet how to archive it so I don't mess everything up as I did last time I cleaned the database.

All posts older than 182 days are now deleted. But I will put together a page with all old posts in statics html.

win2k, dual amd 1800 with 3 gb memory.

Maybe freebsd(or some linux) would help a bit but it is not possible.

Slow server problem solved!! It was the dvd media list that caused it. I had written a very bad mysql statement(a database command to get the data from the database) that took almost 100% cpu load whenever some loaded the dvd media list.

The forum should load a lot faster now, if doesn't you have some other problems because the cpu load is now 50-80% instead of 90-100%.

  20. Slow server problem solved!!
I will have to second that. I also noticed over the last two weeks or so, this server/site had been terribly slow. It was virtually impossible to view posts and respond to them without waiting forever and getting a migraine. Glad to see the problem is fixed, because it definitely makes a huge difference. This site is the Gr8st!

  21. Baldrick, it seems as though the server is back to it's old tricks again. I've noticed over the last few days that when I try to go to this site or when I eventually get a solid enough connection to get in, and click on topics or threads, it takes a long time for the server to respond. Whenever I go to any other site, it's lightning quick. Just a little info to let you know. I'm sure a lot of other people are having the same problems.

Works fine from here. The cpu load is around 70-90% now and we have most visitors this part of the day.
