  1. Is there a way to recover the mpg-1 or mpg-2 streams from a VCD or SVCD?

    Thanks,

Check out VCD-X, i don't have the link off hand, but shouldn't be tough to find. It copy's the file from the VCD than just change the extension to .mpg, works like a charm !!

I tried google and version tracker and did not see anything that might be relevant, anyone have a URL?

  4. Hmm,

Further searching lead me to "VCD Copy X".

Regrettably it seems sorta flakey with VCDs and especially SVCDs.

I was able to get a mpg stream from a VCD but had no luck with SVCDs that I burned myself.

It seems VCD Copy X works best with 100% no-room-for-error compliant VCDs and SVCDs. I can rip pressed VCDs I purchased from eurekamovies.com without errors and quite rapidly. I get errors with VCDs I burned in Nero (back in my PC days), and random failures with VCDs I recorded on my standalone Terapin unit. The majority of my SVCDs were burned in Nero, and although they play in some of my SVCD players, I can't say for sure that any are 100% compliant (thanks, Nero!).
