It's because DMF2 has a skewed idea about what is and isn't a compliant mpeg file. Since your trying to create a dvd(I'm assuming), DMF2 has a predetermined set of parameters for what the file should be. What this means in a nutshell is that it's saying your bitrate should be somewhere around 8000, which is probably considerably higher than yours really is. This is how you get the "bloated" file. You can go to mpeg settings and change the settings to match what your movie really is. Then it will reflect the actual size of the mpeg. But, I gotta warn you, it's been my experience that DMF2 will always re-encode your mpeg, even if it is technically compliant. I've checked the box telling it not to convert compliant mpegs, but it does it anyway. Starting to pi$$ me off.
Hope this helps.Sometimes, ya just gotta.....umm, what's the word........FART??? -
What I think the problem is is this:
DMF2 has those so-called templates for your DVDs. This, and only this, is what it considers compliant. If your mpeg does not fit one of these templates, it's not compliant. For example, I just finished converting Sweet Home Alabama with Tmpeg. I used the dvd template for encoding, but I unlocked it and changed the bitrate(nothing else). In DMF2, this is not considered to be a compliant MPEG, so it "converts" it to one that is. Even if you change the settings to exactly match the settings for your mpeg, DMF2 will convert your "noncompliant" mpeg into this new "compliant" vob set, even though the settings are exactly the same. This usually results in very __________ video (insert expletive here).
I've pretty much decided that DMF2 is a huge waste of cash, even though it is fairly inexpensive.Sometimes, ya just gotta.....umm, what's the word........FART??? -
Moviefactory 2 does not reencode anything for me....if it is dvd compliant then(with any kind of bitrate or dvd resolution and 48 khz audio) and if the do no convert compliant mpeg is checked.

I would guess it is set to use uncompressed PCM audio rather than the mp2 audio present in your mpeg file. Take a good look at the settings/options and try to find one that allows you to keep the mp2 audio stream. One word of warning though, this is not supported by all US DVD players as it is not required by the DVD standard. It is required to be supported on Eouropean players though (don't ask me why the difference!).
