  1. I have a newbie question about DVD Workshop. I would like to make simple DVD's without menus, using MPEG2 files created by CCE or Procoder and WAV audio files exported from Premiere or Procoder.

Using DVD Workshop 1.0 I can successfully drag my MPEG2 files to the "First Play" in my title list and it previews correctly. However when I try to drag the corresonding WAV file I get a "no entry" sign over the first play and it won't accept it. I can however drag the WAV file straight to the preview window, but then it plays on its own without the video.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong? The help files don't help.

    Thanks

Well, a .WAV file isn't a valid DVD audio file type. What you want is a LPCM (Linear Pulse Coded Modulation) audio stream. The difference between the two is minor - the headers are different, but if your program doesn't see the correct header, then it won't accept your file.

I haven't ever done this, but I believe that all you have to do is convert the .WAV file to a .PCM file (RE: strip off the header) using some audio editor, and you will be good to go. Or, maybe you should learn to convert your .WAV files to .AC3 - the space savings is significant.

  4. Thanks again.

In DVDit!, which I have been using so far, I just drop the WAV file onto the first play icon (along with the MPEG2) and it converts to PCM automatically. That's great for my workflow because I'm making several different DVD's every week so I want to automate things as much as possible. However I don't like DVDit! for other reasons and it's not stable.

My videos are upto an hour long only, so I don't really need the space-saving that AC3 might offer me.

WAV is listed as a supported file type for DVD Workshop. Maybe I just don't know how to use it properly. I'll fire off an email to Ulead.

    Cheers

Make sure that the sampling rate of your .WAV file is at 48ksps.

However I don't like DVDit! for other reasons and it's not stable.
Boy, you can say that again!

  6. They're definitely 48kbps.

Maybe one just can't make an ""autostart" DVD in DVD workshop from a .WAV file and .m2v file? Maybe one can only link these at the menu stage, thereby forcing me to have a menu I don't want??? In which case I have to stick with horrible old DVDit! and hope that the forthcoming Adobe product answers my needs.

Have asked Ulead but they don't answer emails relating to the demo.

    Thanks again

I could be wrong, but I don't think DVD Workshop got the ability to import a separate audio file until version 1.3. If you're still using 1.0, that could be your problem right there.

  8. Thanks Robert. I did notice that the "audio replace" function didn't appear until version 1.3. I guess I need that although I don't want to "replace" the audio as such, as my .m2v has no audio stream. Sadly the downloadable demo is still at version 1.2 and I'm not prepared to splash out that much money without a full try out of my needs. Guess I'll have to wait and try other products in the meantime.

    cheers
