Hey All,
I got a Cendyne ( Pioneer A05) a few weeks ago and I broke down and bought a ten pack of Maxell DVD-r media. It burns well, or at least seems to. But when I am watching a movie I backed up onto it it breaks up in a few small spots. If I compare the breakup to the VOB files it is not there and the breakup points dont seem to have anything to do with transitions between VOBs or chapter spots. The breakup looks like a splash of macroblocks around whatever is moving at the time. I am buring with the unit on the master channel on second ide, with Nero BR with UDF 1.02 and full ISO9660 settings.
Anyone else had any trouble with the maxell media?

i've used about 8 of the Maxell DVD-R discs so far, and have not had a single problem with them, so i don't know what could be wrong
just curious though, how much did you pay for each disc? i'm looking for more of this media, but nothing really too cheap out there right now...thanks -
Hi
I have an 104 and a new 105 and these disks play on anything Ive got, PS2, Pioneer 350 ......

I paid "full price for a box of 10" at best buy. I figured I might try a few out while I shop for bulk. The odd thing is that they arent coasters, they just have these tiny glitches in them. I have been disableing screen saver and the anti-virus and not doing anything else on the machine. Im wondering if it might be fragmentation or even heat spike from the processor. I have heard of a few people who had problems with Maxell and TDK on these drives, but it doesnt seem to be a apttern. Im looking into a firmware update tonight.

Its NERO (5.5.10 is the worse) !!! had that problem once.
Switched to RecordNow Max 4.5 ... no problems
Don't forget to burn at 1x speed. The A05 dont like 2x speed and is also questionable at 4x speed. DAMN FIRMWARE!!!! -

keep in mind that every once in a while you will come across defective disc, you could just have a basd pack. I have the pioneer 104 burner and burn with nero/record it now etc using maxells, never had a problem--

Update:
I checked my firmware thinking maybe it needed a boost. Turns out it is 1.21 latest from Pioneer and will take a Pioneer flash. I just tried to back up my copy of AI and it seems to work okay. I havent seen anything yet. The odd part is I used the Princo disk DVDRW that came with it to test the burn and it looks fine. Now Im looking for glitches in the final product. Do you guys think it would be worth it for me to try to get a still of the event and post it up here?
