i have brought dvds in the past that were generically made and they work fine in every dvd player i put it in. i try to do my own and i notice it works only in my computer but if i make a vcd it works fine but the resolution is very low grade compare to dvd. I try it burning with +r and -r and get the same results but the vcd works on either format i am using ulead 6 movie maker and i tried sonic my dvd also i am burning with a sony DRU-500A. My question is how can some burn dvd that wok every where and why other can not? is it because of the sofware? or is it equipment we have. I am very new at this so please explain. Thanks

Some dvd stand alone players just DON'T play dvd-+R/RW.
look to the left of this page for
"dvd players" compatibillity & user comments.
See if your player is in the list. -
Thanks for the reply my dvd players are in that list that do not play dvd-r or dvd+r. But again my question is i have brought white coated dvds from street vendors who sells backup music cds and backup dvds that work in all of my stand alone players plus my mobile dvd how is this possiable that it works?

Good question.
Either you are burning them improperly
or those dvd's off the street are more profesional than you think.
You could try playing the dvd's you made on a friends stand alone or bring the original and the copy dvd you made to a store that sells dvd players and try your copy.
My old dvd player didn't play anything but store bought dvd's and disks bought off the street. But, not dvd's made on my burner.
I upgraded. -
So when you say more professional made do you mean high end software or hardware and also does the stand along dvd players/recorders work better than the cpu connected burners i seen sony advertising one in best buy for $599.00 which is two hundred dollars more than i paid for my burner, because if this is the case i sell my sony DRU-500A and buy the stand alone recorder. What i am trying to do is capture old movies and shows off the tv for people for a little profit. Also some one told me it could be the media i am using they said to try samsung be all and use a different other than ulead. do you think by following there advice i will be just wasting my time and money?.

Hardware.

I don't think stand alone is the way to go. As soon as they come up with new encription you will be screwed, while software of the web would work through this.

Don't do that.

Yes I think trying a news software & media would help. I tried 10 diffrent ways to rip & burn and 3 different media's till I found the right combo.
