First off, are these dvd+r's even good?
second, what does it mean about only to be used with a 4x burner, if it's a 1-4x can't i use my 2.4x burner?

You will be able to burn the disc in 2.4x speed if you update your firmware to the latest 1.51 version if you have a drive based on Ricoh MP5125, earlier versions might give writing errors.
BTW, the compatibility/write speed list @ http://www.supermediastore.com/ritdvdvdplus1.html is completely wrong, none of the listed DVD writers will burn in 4x... -
how can i find out what kind of lens or whatever i have?
i have a ikebana dvd+r/+rw burner, 2.4x so what do i do?
and where can i get the firmware update because i couldn't find one on ikebana's website -
If it burns DVD+R/RW in 2.4x/2.4x and CD-R/RW in 12x/10x then it is a rebadged Ricoh MP5125 and Ikebana has probably used the OEM firmware version of the Ricoh drive. You can get it from the firmware page in the original RPC2 version or the patched region-free RPC1 version.

jsl, i went to that link, and i downloaded the 1.74 and the 1.51 for the 5120A/5122A and the 5125A respectively. I downloaded those, unzipped and tried to run them, but it didn't work i recieved two errors
for the 1.74: something like "cannot go to up mode"
for the 1.51: something like "cannot update for different type code"
any ideas? -
Can you check what your current firmware is named like and what version it is?
You can do so with for example Nero Infotool which you already should have installed if you use Nero.
(See my example: Name: _NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A, version: 1.A0) -
i got a prolbme, now when i open nero, it doesn't recognize my drive as a burner, not even in my computer, they both just see it as a cd-rom, and when i used infotool it said "ricoh program loader 9"

fixed it, i just restarted and now it works again, uhh... its'
Name:[1:1] f:\AOpen DVRW2412PRO
firmware 1.38
it's an ikebana though....
oh yeah, under dvd features it says "Region Control RPCII" if that matters -
Strange that it has the AOpen firmware although this drive is in fact a OEM version of the Ricoh 5125 too. Unfortunately it looks like Aopen has not yet released the 1.51 firmware to this drive. I think you can actually use the Ricoh 5125 firmware by renaming it but do so at your own risk: If you do something wrong your drive will not work anymore.
If you want to try it anyway search the firmware forum for details how to do it and read the instructions carefully!
Or just use 2.4x media until AOpen has released a new firmware. -
no i don't care that much for the new firmware to take a risk like that, i'll just wait a few weeks and see what comes up. Am i the only one with a ikebana with the aopen firmware?
