Mini-DV recorder vs DVD recorder

I think this would not have macrovision or cgms.........and tapes are cheap too.

Any other players like this available? Not sure why you can get a miniDV camcorder for $600, but this player is $1,300! I'd love to have a "simple", Firewire-only player that I could keep connected to my PC.

The prices I saw for mini DV tapes were not cheap to me and the length was very short.

Another entry in the digital vcr market...

I've never felt compelled to purchase a separate player for my camera tapes so if I was in the market for a digital vcr that used tapes I'd probably go with the HD capable unit.

Well this is a pro-video vtr that appears to not have any macrovision or cgms.I checked the manual and no mention of it. If I could have a betacam SP VTR I could make some awesome recordings as that is broadcast standard. But anyways, this is just a bit more than a crippled consumer dvd recorder and offers good quality digital recording on Mini-DV tapes.

The JVC is down to around $650 for a D-VHS but it is still crippled with copy protection. A pro-video deck will most likely not have any copy protection.

JVC does have a Mini-DV/VHS combo unit for $730-830 but stillhas macrovision
