I have managed to get DVDxCopy to work on my TiBook, but I have to decrypt the DVD first using DVDextractor or Osex as a disc image, and then load the disc image into VPC. Does anyone know how to get VPC to authenticate the disc through the DVD player? It would save a lot of time and hassle. :P

what are the specs for your ti book and how long does it take to copy using dvdxcopy?

I've tried doing this too, using osex but VPC won't mount the image file. I select "capture cd image..." and the .img file for the DVD is grey'd out. How did you do this and what version of VPC are you using and with what emulated OS?

TiBook G4 667
VPC 6
DVDxCopy 4.1
It took 40 minutes to rip a 3.5 Gig DVD using DVDxcopy + VPC 6.
I don't mount the image with VPC. I mount the image to the desktop first, and then drag the mounted DVD image icon into VPC.
If I could de-crypt from within VPC, then I'd be laughing.dvdxcopy will work on mac, dammit! -
Why don't you use DVDBackup ?
http://195.134.134.27/downloads/macdvd/DVDBackup_13.bin
Looks like it will do exactly the same ? Or am I wrong ? -
What do you mean by not being able to decrypt in VPC? Im confused because I am able to use programs like SmartRipper to rip vobs, etc in VPC. I don't think I'm quite understanding you though.

Why on earth would you try doing this with a 3.7GB DVD image? You can just burn straight to a DVD-R with Toast if you already have an image under 4.3GB. VPC won't let me drag files over 4GB into the VPC window, so this would only be an effective solution if I can split the DVD-9 images into two smaller files and reconstruct them from within VPC... any ideas how I'd do this?

Danny: I was using a 3.5 gig dvd as a test. Good point - I haven't tried it yet with a larger image, and it may not work.
there goes my plans...
None if this would be a problem if DVDxCopy could decrypt my DVD. What I mean by that is DVDxCopy will rip and split the dvd into two dvd-5s, but if the disc has CSS it will not play back. I'm assuming that DVDxCopy works the same as DVDBackup, which is that it uses the CSS key when using the software DVD player to remove the CSS protection. This does not work when using VPC.
any ideas?dvdxcopy will work on mac, dammit! -
why dont u just use mac software.. theres a smart suggestion.. why do u think no one develops software for mac users.. they are willing to settle for less and use some overhyped pc programs in VPC... is having the original menu THAT important to u? i mean seriously. If u want to get some real easy solutions deal with what you have on mac now and maybe someday someone will find it worthwhile to write a program that can keep those menus everyone makes such a big deal out of. Sorry just my two cents

Yo Bile
if you want to write me a program to split 4.3+ Gig Vobs and give me subtitles, without re-encoding, i'd be more than happy.
but I'm guessing that you won't
Danny: If you rip a disk image with osex, mount it with toast, then VPC will accept it. Just tried it. Drag the dvd icon into the CD icon at the bottom of VPC.
And Bile, why not write me a FastTrack client for the mac while you're at it?dvdxcopy will work on mac, dammit! -
Honestly, the software for the mac to rip and resize is all there. All anyone needs to do now is write something that rips/resizes/encodes as fast as DVD2one and everything would be golden. 20-30 mins for a ripped dvd? *shrugs* nice I'd say. But hell, if time isn't important, 42 works like a charm. In fact, with everything they've done, 1.02 works excellently for me. I don't even need the image capability they're putting into 1.5.

Bile,
actually, that is what a lot of people are looking for to be honest.. for one, the chapters are most important.. a backed up DVD is really pretty much useless to me if it doesn't have the chapters in it... I have a 300disc dvd changer that all my originals are in, but sometimes I want movies on the road in the powerbook.. taking them out of the changer is a mess and then worrying about scratching them is another thing.. but to have to fastforward through 2 hours of the movie to find the place I left off is no fun either...
and the menu.. that's just the next most important thing (to me)... I'd rather have the original movie split to two discs (9.4gb double sided DVD's that you flip) than a VHS-like DVD that makes I have to watch end to end!
I wondered if, since you've got the transcoding done in 42, and you're plans are to go to VIDEO_TS, why not use the IFO files and BUP files that make up the menu of the original DVD an keep them included in the output folder? (if you kept the chapters, it should work perfect) the files wouldn't know that the video's been reencoded.. the names would be the same.. is this plausible? -
Okay.. I got it.. but you'll need an actual PC (not VPC)..
I got the DVD in my roommate's PC with DVDXCopy running.. his computer doesn't have a DVD-R drive in it though.. so what I'm doing is running dvdxcopy, letting it split up the movie.. very fast.. and then, when it asks what engine to burn with (nero or default) I network to his PC and grab the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders and put em in toast.. wallaa... disk 1 is done! then it goes on to disk 2.. and so on... i like it!
of course, this is theory.. i'm testing it now.. i just hope it doesn't quit once it realizes I haven't actually burned disc1 on the PC.. i'm hoping it will do both discs before asking to burn.. ...hoping...because if it quits.. it erases the files and i'll have nothing for disc2.
UPDATE: okay.. there is a "skip this disc option once it completes "disc 1 of 2" and it will start copying the second disc without making you burn the first one.. so I'm now networking the files to my powermac and putting them in toast (as VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS).. i'm buring on a DVD_RW to test until i get my 9.4gb double-sided discs ordered... -
sorry that isnt even remotely plausible as of yet... you need a program to actually parse and re-write the ifo files to work according to the newly transcoded vob... Considering we dont have any software that i am aware of to parse and re-write ifo files and tag new vob files accordingly to fit in the original dvd structure its not plausible. If you want those chapter markers so badly and you want menus then make a menu yourself and indivudally add chapter markers in dvdsp-- either way i consider going into vpc to run a pc program as being a waste of time. That is just my feeling. Its the total lack of effort mac users are willing to put in to full mac processes that prevents progress in so many ways.

I completely understand going the mac way.. COMPLETELY.. but I am in no position to write my own program.. i am solely dependent on the brilliance of others like you and kai. I will totally be supporting you in your program because you have done great work thus far, but it is not the solution I can use right now. and there are none out there that are.. I say, use what you got.. i'm fortunate (sounds horrible saying that) to have a pc in the house I can do this in a couple hours and be done... once the mac software is availble, i'll be rejoicing as loud as anyone, but why should i have to sit and wait when other solutions are there?
-
actually this might be the program all us mac dudes are waiting for.

sounds like too much work for me!
UPDATE: my network to the PC is on a 10BaseT (i know, it sucks...) so I wanted to try burning the DVD with toast on my mac without copying the files first from the PC (after DVDXCOPY is done with the disc) so I mounted his drive on my desktop, then pointed TOAST to the files on his drive and clicked burn.. it takes a little longer than the normal burn time, but with the underrun protection on, it works! I don't even have to copy the files! I am simply amazed....
one thing I'd like to find out is, how do you get the 321 studios "this dvd was made by dvdxcopy" out of the DVD (when you put the firs disc in the DVD player, this banner from dvdxcopy comes up and tells you that, then you hit play again, and it goes off and is a perfect copy of the movie from then on).. How do I get rid of that? It shouldn't be too much trouble i wouldn't think since I have access to the files before I burn them... anyone done this? -
Theres a posting in the PC DVD to DVD-R section about that:
https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=127933&highlight=dvdxcopy
looks like a lot of work. I tried to hack it, and as much as I can figure, the warning gets multiplexed with all the menus in the VIDEO_TS.VOB. It's one frame long, and I guess the .IFO is written so that it displays it for X time before playing.
Has anyone managed to play DVDs in VPC? I know it's not supported yet, but has anyone hacked it? I'm still trying to get DVDxCopy to de-crypt as it's ripping.dvdxcopy will work on mac, dammit!
