  1. I am thinking of purchasing the Sony DRX500UL to back up graphic and audio files. Most everything is on a PC server, but it would be nice to also plug up the unit to the Mac. I did see a post by David Cloutier about connecting to a Mac, but he does not have his email listed. It looks like the Sony DRX500UL only comes with PC software, so I guess this the first problem. Has anyone had any luck in doing this and if so what about the software? What do most Mac users use for DVD burning? I see that there has been post about needing a 4pin-6pin firewire cable. What’s up with this? Is most firewire cables 4 wire? Not sure what the G4 has.

    Thanks,
    Mark
I use both Mac and PC. Mac: G4 Power Book 1GHz w/1GHz ram PC:1GHz w768 both have large SCSI/Fire Wire HD

the best mac burning software is toast, by roxio. does cd and dvd formats. toast should see your drive no problem. you might look at the roxio.com site under toast support for supported drives, but i'd be surprised if they didn't support it. also all macs are native 6 pin firewire. most all external firewire burners i've seen are 6 pin too, i've only seen 4 pin on dv cameras. but all you need is a 4 to 6 pin anyways, if one has one and one has the other.

  3. You can read reviews of both Sony models (firewire and internal) here:

This is a great site to for Mac reviews and info. Helped me to choose the best burner for my powerbook.

    Hope this helps.
