Seems like the top two choices for buying a Sony DVD-R writer is the DRU500A EIDE and the DRX500UL USB2.0.
So, what is a DRX500ULX ? One person spotted a reference to it on Sony's support pages. I have seen at least one on-line seller who has the drive available for pre-order. The description appears exactly the same as the DRX500UL, but clearly mentions an iLink/IEEE1394 interface.
I asked Sony if they had a release date for the DRX500ULX. They told me, (paraphrasing) "I dunno."
I downloaded the user's manual for the 500UL. It mentions IEEE1394 as well as USB2.0. Now, I'm confused.
Is the ULX version the same as the UL, but with MAC drivers? Did the 500UL begin shipping with iLink as well as USB2.0, but they didn't change the model number? Since the 500UL and the 500ULX have the same list price, should I put off buying a drive until the 500ULX is out?
Thanks,
Henry
