  1. If a want to capture from vhs to finaly DVD
    But it must capture both odd /even fields. NTSC
    what size and what compression would you suggest.

  2. Take a look at the capture guides to the left. But as a general rule you want to capture at the highest resolution and bitrate that your system will support (normally 720x480 is a good choice). Either as raw AVI or with a 'lostless codec' like Huffyuv.

    Then apply any filters you like, and encode at a lower resolution/bitrate if/as needed (eg. 352x480).

    I agree with that :
    For best results, capture in 720(704)x480 AND if you can, also do it in Interlaced (your cap-device must support that).
    If you're creating VCD, then do the de-interlacing at the mpeg-encoder (using internal method of TMPGenc is quite allright : you even don't need to set a special filter for that).
    If you captured in Interlaced, modify the settings of TMPGenc (if you're using that for the mpeg) also to create Interlaced video (only if you're creating SVCD or DVD, while VCD always is non-interlaced).
    With Interlaced (even at VCD), don't forget to set the correct Interlaced-direction (either "field-A first (odd)" or "field-B first (even)").
