Sorry, 40 minutes don't cut it for me. I do a lot of hour long TV shows and once the commercials are cut out they are usually 45 minutes long. I feel I need something that can handle 45-50 minutes. I have that already. I modified a CVD template I like, to produce good to excellant quality CVD resolution XCVDs (or XSVCDs depending upon how you look at it) from a good quality source. The "X" is because I use a maximum 2-Pass VBR bitrate of 3500-4000 kbits/sec, everything else is within spec. I will tryout your templates later to see if I can squeeze a few more minutes out of them and get a better quality CD than I currently do.

Maybe you should tell people what using your templates buys them. Just looking at the description leads me to believe that all it has is a changed resolution, a default bitrate, and nonstandard 48kHz audio. I keep the audio at 44.1kHz for VCD/SVCD/CVD, use a bitrate calculator, and it only takes a few seconds to change the resolution. I can't see anything there except a starting point for newbies, so for me there doesn't appear to be any reason to download it.

What did you start from, the standard tmpgenc SVCD template? Did you change other settings (ie GOP length) to make the output reasonably DVD-compliant? If you're going to put audio at 48k that would be logical, since that's one of the advantages of using 352x480/576 over 480x480/576.

Yes, I started from the standard SVCD. I changed the "frames per GOP" to 18 for NTSC (Film Also) and 15 for PAL. I put audio at 48K so that people can put the CVD straight on DVD-R.

I have now used the "40 minute NTSC template version" five times, lowering the average video bitrate slightly to accommodate a 45 minute video. I am very pleased with the results. With this template I am maintaining the quality that I have always liked, yet additionally I am finally, fully CVD compliant on my encodes. I will be using this template often.

Thank you Puertorican138 for taking the time to create this template, tweak the settings and for sharing your efforts with us.

You my friend have made a template for 1/2 D1 DVD, not CVD. NTSC at that GOP length with 352x480 and 48khz audio is exactly half D1 DVD spec.

    CVD uses 44.1 khz audio.

    Kitty:

Yes, I cought that almost immediately (the audio thing) and changed it on my copy to 44.1 khz audio. I just neglected to put that in my post from a few hours ago.

So, since I did change it to to 44.1 khz audio, I believe I am now making totally compliant CVDs.

I just made it 48000Hz since some people will want to put it on DVD-R. Yeah, I should've made it 44100Hz. Kitty, you will be quite pleased with my template after you try it. 8) :P

  12. puertorican138,
I've used your template and I have to say I'm pleased with the quality. Usually I change the average bitrate around though to accomodate however many CDs I want to use, but overall the quality generally seems quite good. Since I'm NTSC, I do have to deal with that goofy 'staircase' effect with straight lines, but I seem to remember this format favors PAL anyway.

Has anyone actually used the vid/aud streams from puertorican138's template to author a DVD yet?

  15. Hey!

I tried your template but I can't get it to work correctly. The outcome is always a 704x576(480) mpeg2 file. I can't make Tmpeg encode the movie in the predefined 352x576(480). The preview looks great, the encoding screen looks great but the final movie is crap at 704.
