  1. I encode cvds using TMPeng. I would like to know what is the EXACT audio spec I should use to ensure dvd compatibility without reencoding.
I know I must not downsample 48 to 44. However, should I use 224 bits or can I reduce this to 160?

Any furter advice to make my cvd fully dvd compliant?

    Thanks a lot!

48Khz is the important part for compatability. if you want to reduce the bits down to 160 thats fine- but will be less quality sound.

I've converted many SVCD's to DVD-R and I would strongly recommend you not reduce your bitrate from 224. Are your CVD's encoded at 48k sample rate? Audio uses very little space on a DVD,don't reduce the bitrate. An hour of 224B/R audio would use about 100MB's,compre that to the disks 4.37GB capacity.

  4. Within reason, I don't think the bit rate is a problem (other than sound quality), only the frequency. I'm not sure I've used 160, but I have used lower and higher sometimes quite a bit (unintentionally, doh!). No problems.

Does anyone know of a programme that can easily batch convert the 44.1KHz audio tracks of MPEG files to 48kHz? I can't encode my CVDs to 48kHz because my DVD player plays the audio at too low a pitch, and since I encode mostly Josh Groban performances, that is unacceptable. I like Josh's voice just as it is!!!

I encoded SVCDs (always 44.1KHz) in 160,192,224 KBits/s and they all worked well...

He's not talking about SVCD's he is talking about CVD's and the compatability with DVD format which is 48khz.
