Yes I've had this problem and yes I have an HP burner. Solution: I have to use maxell CD-R's. I have some sonys that work about half the time. My IOMEGA CD-RW also gives me trouble and has to be recorded at 2x sometimes....

  3. We had a fairly dusty office envoronment and dust would cover the lens of the burner so I had to physically take the drive apart and clean the lens with Q-tips. This seemed to solve our problems but I beleive I have heard that some HP burners have a faulty component that could be causing the problem.

I had the same problem with a cd-burner, it would only burn to memorex discs. I eventually upgraded my power supply from a 250w to a 450w and the problem went. It was only the fact I was given some different brand of discs so I tried them. Now all brands seem to work fine!

By the way this was a philips unit not an hp[/quote]
