SmartRipper not able to unlock files...

Hi,

I just set up a friend's PC for making VCDs, but there's a minor problem - SmartRipper won't work! Not going anywhere fast without that!

It says that it's testing the files, then it says that some files cannot be unlocked and crashes, freezing the entire computer. His computer is about 3 years old, so maybe his DVD drive needs new software?

Does anyone have any ideas?

haqve you tried playing the dvd before you run smart ripper? sometimes the dvd needs to be played before smart ripper will be able to rip it....

Yup definitely sounds like ASPI layer is missing, or old... go to the tools section on VCDHELP, and look for the link to ASPI, that will take you to the ADAPTEC site. You should be able to download the latest release of the ASPI layer, and install using the dos batch file... check the readme file as you'll have to open a dos box, and run the batch file with a command like switch based on the OS your friend is running...

I had the same problem, although I was ripping just fine until I hit a problem movie which told me files were locked. Once I downloaded the ASPI layer, and installed, no more problems.

I had same problem. Played the DVD in WinDVD first, stopped it and then ran SmartRipper...files unlocked.
