I have a large MPEG2 file (3.9 GB), which is a combinastion of 4 cd's worth of MPEG2's (1 long movie). The mpeg plays fine in Windows media player, with picture and sound in sync.
Now I want to run it through spruceUp, so I can then burn it to DVD.
Spruce just sits there at the import, showing 0% imported, with all the subfiles created, but they're only 1 k each and nothing's happening. It's stayed like this for more than an hour now. I've never had this problem with Spruce before. I've already trimmed the mpeg in tmpgenc (cut off 10 seconds from start and finish), but the result stays the same.

Have you tried a reboot?
Delete the project files that spruce created and tried again?
In worst case scenario re-encode the MPG file and try Spruce again. -
Yep, done all of these things.
I turned on Task Manager. CPU usage is nearly zero. memory usage for Spruce is less than 30 MB (I have 512 MB).
I could re-encode, but the result should be the same...
Today, after I let it run idle for a couple of hours, I got an error saying the file format was unsupported...it's a bloody MPEG2...wtf?
In windows explorer, under details, the file IS listed as mpeg.vcr file type, whatever that means...My system:

I remember last year there were complaints about TMPG encoded files not importing into Spruce-Up correctly.
You might try cutting the file into 4x1gb files. Or try an older version of TMPGenc. -
Unclebud:
Thanks.
If I were to use the original 4 files, would I be able to join them all together in Spruce? My system:

use TMPEnc to demux the original MPEG into .M2V and MP2. It keeps the original file intact for use later on.
Then try to convert the audio to AC3. Use Besweet (don't ask me how to use the damn program, only managed it once by fluke).
Make sure the M2V and AC3 files are named exactly the same and are located in the same folder. OpenSPRUCEUP, import the M2V file and it should automatically find the audio and import it.
Why all this hassle, why. Well, I have spent the last two days desperately trying to get some video back from SVCD to DVD because some nasty little bastards broke into the house, stole my DV camcorder with all my skiing tapes (my holidays). Had to demux, then convert the audio to wav in soundforgee, then convert the wav file to AC3 using Softencode, and then SPRUCE up accepted the file.
Good luck.TOMMO -
Thanks Tommo. That gives me something to work with !

Well,
This file is more stubborn than I expected. I demuxed it to .m2v and .mp2, I converted the .mp2 to .acr using besweet, then tried using Spruce again. I got some sort of timing error from spruce, and then it shit down.
Is there any other software out there that will produce a VIDEO_TS from an MPEG2 file? Maybe if I run the original MPEG (which still runs fine on my PC) through another software package, it won't puke...My system:
