    I have to buy a dvd with the full ripping speed...I have a sony dru 500a writer but is blocked at 2x on ripping video files...You have a list of dvd player with no blocked speed?

    I had the same problem as you - Sony DRU-500A that would only rip at 2x.

    So I did the research and ended up getting the Lite-On LTD-166S (XJ-HD166S is the same drive). It rips an entire DVD-9 disc in about 17 minutes on my system. That would have taken about an hour with the Sony.
