How to download Camcorder to Computer Hard drive

I have a Sony Digital Camcorder and want to download my tape to my computer via USB link so I can burn it to a SVCD. Do I need software such as Intervideo Windvd to do this? Basic Windvd came with my new Computer but I don't know how to get my tape on the computer which has a DVD and a CD Burner.

Hello,

Since you have a SONY digital camera, the best way is via FIREWIRE. You can get a FIREWIRE card for about 15 bugs and the IEE1394 cable for about 15.


To do what you want NOW though, you can use the PIXELA software that came with your sony which downloads via USB and the supplied USB cable. This is in your instruction book.

Did your camcorder come with a capture program? I plan on getting a Sony Camcorder this weekend (Yay!) and my research says this Sony camcorder comes with its own capture program, PIXELA Imagemixer. Did yours come with it, since it came with a USB cable.

I can't find the CD that came with the Camcorder. it's been about 6 months and I just got a new computer, Compaq. Could the Compaq already have Firewire connection?

My software may be in the basement. Is there an easy way to get the PIXELA software that came with the Camcorder if I can't find it?

I would say to contact Sony's customer service department and see if they can replace the CD for little or no charge.

1) Go firewire..You will be glad you did.

if not , by all means use PIXELA from sony but you are talking REALLY basic stuff there. If you lost PIXELA , you may be able to get one from SONY.

Like i said though, get a FIREWIRE card and cable. That 15 dollar card and 15 dollar cable are a godsend.
