so what do you use to make an image?

i have done some searching and see various proggies people use to make an image. i have a movie backed up to my HD. i used DVDdecryptor to do this. it plays fine from my HD using powerdvd so i would like to make an image of this and use nero to burn it to dvdr. the file is 4.3 gig so it looks like it should fit. im using win2k.

what do you people use to make an image of this file in this situation? i searched for "image" and got some 6500 hits hehe. i guess i could search for image in dvd to dvdr forum.

I use DVDMaestro or IMGTOOLS to make my images.

I use an older version of IMGTOOLS. You point it at a directory, make a virtual drive out of it, and then it creates an ISO you can either burn with DVD Decrypter or mount with daemontools. I've never had a problem.

What is the difference b/t burning the actual movie files vs. burning images?? Any advantages/dis- ?

I'm told that an image become crucial as the project size increases in complexity over size. That is, a DVD with one set of .VOB's will always burn fine in either method but if you had 200 menus and lotsa crazy clips, the image route makes easy work for the burning program
Also if you're burning over a network (not advisable btw) or on a system with many harddrive partitions and less disc space, the image route becomes attractive.....

so burning from a network drive is not advisable? even if the storage drive is an x15? i have the file stored on this puter and my burner is on another puter. i can transfer the file to the other puter easy enough..ill heed the advice if it means not burning a coaster in the future . i have scsi disk subsytems on all my puters. my goal is to have an x15 for a boot drive on each as well. will also have a nice scsi raid array setup in the near future $$ permiting.

If its "your" network..Go Ahead
but if other may come onto it during the burn, especially without being aware of your usage, don't..
but if its "your" (no other users) network, just be careful or burn from an image!

yeah its my own home network. i may just burn from an image its just as easy for me.
