On my player's display, there are 2 other indicators that don't light up: HD and SACD, but maybe they can! Read on...
On the LG 5083 and, by looking at the experiences of others, probably most LG 5000 series players there are 8 programmable bytes, which are accessed by:
1. Power on
2. 1472 on remote (the TV screen shows the status of the 8 bytes, and the player shows the current selected byte which starts with number 1 and then the Hex value of the first byte, in my case 47).
3. Arrow up key selects the next byte, all the way to 8th byte.
4. To change the byte value: key in 0-9 on remote as normal, then for A-F you use "Program" key+1 for A, "Program" key+2 for B, etc.
5. Press Enter
6. Power off then on.
For VCD enable you change the 4th byte to FE (up arrow 3x Player displays 4 00 which will change to 4 FE)
For SVCD enable you change the 7th byte to FE (up arrow 6x Player displays 7 00 which will change to 7 FE)
BUT...
the 3rd and 8th bytes are left at 00, which was the case of the 4th and 7th prior to setting them for VCD and SVCD read.
My suspicion then is that the 3rd and 8th byte is for SACD and HD-CD.
Based on the VCD and SVCD, it's probable that setting the 3rd and 8th byte to FE (or DE) allows reading those formats. I haven't got either type currently. Does anyone have a SACD or HD-CD and like to try?
