TMPGEnc freezes my computer

I've tried to use TMPGEnc to convert a divx movie to VCD.
About 5-7 min. into the conversion it freezes my computer.
The same thing happens every time i try.
I've used different divx codecs, different movies and tried with a
movie that I could convert on my old computer.
My computer is a MSI KT3 Ultra2 mainboard with a Athlon XP2000+
running win98.
Greatful for any help.

it's not very good with win98 i had the same issue, then got a new pc works fast with windows xp

But the weird thing is that it worked om my older
computer a KT133 based with Athlon 1,2 GHz.
That used win98.
