  1. Do the svcds have a size limit? because you could have a 900MB file on a 650MB disk with vcd right? Is this the same with svcd?

The size is limited by the CD, not the file type. For 74 min CD's, VCD/SVCD can be up to 740 MB. For 80 min, it can be up to 800 MB.

  3. on the other hand, if you READ THE BLOODY LABELS, you will see that a 74min cd = 650MB, and an 80min cd = 700MB. Even with overburn, an 80min disc will only take from 704-710MB, so PLEASE save yourself a LOT of time, and keep the file sizes under 650/700MB, or else you may find yourself re-encoding ALL of your videos!

BTW,"braindrain", 1min on CDR is NOT equal to 1MB of data....fool.
Why would it be a 650Meg disc if it held 740?
If you reckon you can get an 800MB file on a 700MB disc/drive/whatever without further compression, then you are welcome to try and explain to me how.I need a good laugh. While you're at it, how about explaining-
1: why you wish to convince this man that you can fit square blocks into round holes, and-
2: what pleasure do you get from knowing that this bloke is now going to waste time and cash trying to burn 800MB files onto discs that will be obviously ruined by the process, just because you wanted to sound like you knew what you were talking about.
Homeiss, heed these words, ignore that loser, and enjoy your movies! Good luck!

    Cheese out....

  4. I am able to burn an SVCD as large as 830MB on a 700MB CDR. This is using overburn in Nero. The file is reported as appx 850,000KB in Windows (850,000KB = 830 Megs). Using the 99 minute 850MB CDR's I'm in the high 950MB+ range on an SVCD overburn in Nero. Haven't worked with the 99 minute CDR's long enough to know what my top range is. Alot depends on your burner. And the SVCD's play great in my player (Apex703)

Based on these comments I feel you have no idea what you are talking about. Especially when you make no mention of no need for error correction with VCD's or SVCD's. No offense but perhaps you could be a little less aggressive when making points that you just may have to spend a bit more time researching.

  6. Purecheese, I guess the name says it all huh...

Gotta love when 'know-it-alls' just spew shit all over the place without a lick of actual KNOWLEDGE on the subject...

Braindrain and next are correct. Go get a clue, do some research and LOSE THE ATTITUDE next time before making yourself look like an ass.

  7. Hey boyz, sorry if aggression seemed to be the tone indicated with the first reply, but thanks for replying in an equally aggressive manner. For your information, Ihave been using vcd, svcd and mostly MPEG-4 for a few years now, and burn with nero 5038. The advice I gave Homeiss was based on the fact that he seems fairly new to the subject, and with no info on his CDR drive, make of CDR discs, and burning app, this keeps things on the safe side until he gains the knowledge to push the envelope on disc capacity himself.
As far as next and Braindrain go, yes guys, you ARE right, and I'm sorry if I was a bit harsh on braindead earlier, (we all have bad days!) but assuming that Homeiss IS new to the subject, You can't assume that he is burning his discs with Nero as SVCD's, as he might be using the standard dataCD (ISO) format, and encoding using an SVCD preset, which on an 800MB file would give him coasters!
and JJames, if you wish to try your hand at personal insults, i.e:
"Purecheese, I guess the name says it all huh...

I do have a personal e-mail .. please leave the forum free for useful advice for those who need it.

Again, sorry for the agression earlier to Braindrain

If you burn a MPEG as dataCD, it isn't a (S)VCD, it is still a dataCD. If you want a SVCD and play it on a dvd player, burn as SVCD.
BTW, this is a funny topic.

  9. I can tell you one thing for sure. I am not new to vcd's at all, how ever I am new to svcd's. I son;t think I will be making any svcd's I guess I will stick to good old vcd format.

Anyways don't fight over a stupid question, I didn't know this would happen!

    What does BTW mean?

  10. No problem Cheese - I was a little pissy myself this morning...

The content of this board has left something to be desired lately with topics like 'Who here smokes weed', and 'Why are porn VCD's so blocky'... Haha... Your post just happened to be the one to finally set me off, sorry 'bout that.
