My stand alone DVD player is a Panasonic RV-32. If I burn a standard VCD, the display on my rv-32 will just say "PBC play" and I'm not able to view any time as to where I'm at in the movie. If I turn off PBC on the player it will then display time but it's always a few remote clicks away. Now I have noticed if I burn with VCDeasy and uncheck PBC control and burn, when I load it up in my player, it will start right away and display the time which is the way I want it. If I burn without PBC, is this still a standard VCD disk? Will it play in other players? I suppose if I get another player down the road and it won't play without PBC I could just reburn them. Any thoughts?

Yes, you can still burn a VCD without PBC and be standard. Just make sure you've made it a VCD 2.0. Be aware though, that you will not be able to create and add chapters and menus with PBC off.

    Hope That Helps!!! :P

Thanks, I think I'd rather have the time dislpay then chapters.

  4. What's so useful about time display anyway?

Whether you get the time displayed is dependent on your player. Not all players behave the same way. IMHO, you should completely ignore the numbers that come up at the front of your display on your DVD player when watching VCDs as it doesn't usually have anything useful...

If you are making a simple multitrack VCD, then turning off PBC is not such a bad idea: http://www.michaeltam.com/simple_multitrack.html

However, if you are interested in making menus and chapters (highly recommended... and fun!) you will have to use PBC.
