I'm trying to convert my VCR tapes to VCD, SVCD, or DVD. Can I expect to achieve video quality thats better than the tape quality or is the quality of my finished product dependent upon the quality of my source?
I've already made one movie and converted it back to tape and VCD. The tape version is of the same quality as the original tape but the VCD that I played back on my Sony dav S300 is of poorer quality. Is there anything I can do different to increase quality of my finished product?
TIA,
Jim

well yes and no .. no mostly ...
you can't make something better than what the source was .. but with almost any tape format you can filter it -- a nessessity really ... which can make it look a bit better ..
garbage in = garbage out . -
a filter for removing video noise . like this one http://shelob.mordor.net/dgraft/smooth.html or this one http://shelob.mordor.net/dgraft/hiq/smoothhiq.html
or the one built into TMPGenc
