Is there any benefit to upgrading to 2.510? I'm still using 2.58. I heard before that some functionally in Tmpgenc was removed after 2.58 so I've been hesitant to upgrade.

    Thanks (and I'm not joking.)

  4. Actually, I heard that the functionality was removed in 2.57. That's why people were trying to find 2.56.

2.59 supposedly had some sort of file size calculation bug. I haven't noticed anything wrong with it.

  5. Yes, 2.56 was also the last good PAL version of TMPG - and it still had it's MPEG 2 codec intact!

  6. I still use 2.58. But I might want to find a copy of 2.56 to see what its all about. Anyone know where to find it?

Does anyone think that the newer versions eg 2.58, 2.59 gave a better quality result ?

I like more TMPGenc 2.59 plus. I think do excellent job with PAL. But there are times this proggy crashes, because of various reasons. Those few times, version 2.56 plus has no problems.
I just download ver 2.510, it's time for testing!

  9. Hello,

One of the features in the new Version : 2.510. 2003/1/17 is...

Fixed: In the MPEG setting dialog window, System tab, chosing MPEG-1
    Video-CD (non-standard) would in fact select the MPEG-1 Video-CD
    setting.

Baldrick, you mention this in vcd help mainpage arguing
that people may have had problems when trying to burn
xvcd, even when lowering the bitrate.

But you don't specify _what_ kind of problem. Me, I have just
authored my first xvcd. At 2034 kbs Nero burnt it successfully
    (100%) done on a 100 cd-r (the bitrate I used was as a
99-min cd-r, just to play safe). HOWEVER, the burning process
FAILED just after the 100%, when the lead-out was about
to begin or was taking place.

The Nero error log says the following... (just an excerpt):

    -------------------------------------------------------------
    14:05:21 #23 Text 0 File WriterStatus.cpp, Line 115
    <AOPEN CD-RW CRW4048 > start writing Lead-Out at LBA 443997 (6C65Dh), lenght 0 blocks

    14:05:30 #24 SCSI -1135 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1189
SCSI Exec, HA 2, TA 1, LUN 0
    Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR)
    HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK)
    TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND)
    Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
    Sense Code: 0x0C
    Sense Qual: 0x00
    CDB Data: 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00
    Sense Data: 0x71 0x00 0x03 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0C
    0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x0C 0x00

    14:05:30 #25 CDR -1135 File Writer.cpp, Line 331
    Write error
    -------------------------------------------------------------

Playback on the dvd player is perfect.
I checked the .dat and saw the video playing was as expected
(very good quality everything ok. just at the end some video
error), but the leadout had given an error though.

    I lowered the bitrate as if I were writing a 99min cd-r
(even though it was 100min) to 2013 kbs.

Same thing happened: burning successful (100%) yet
the leadout failed. And playback on the DVD player is
    perfect!

So that's why I wonder whether my problem is NOW
solved with this new release 2.510 or the source of
the problem is a different one...

BTW, would you mind giving just a little bit of info on
    the importance of the leadout?

To end this message, I'll just say the .mpg file size
I get from converting the .dat to .mpg with
VCDGear latest version (3.50) is different from the
original .mpg file size I get from TMPGEnc. Had anyone
realized about that? This must be some sort of
file size mismatch... even though they differ in some
KB, not many MB at all.

    Thank you for your attention,

    Sunmanking

You can find the old versions on Kazaa. I make the assumption you have bought TMPG, and so are entitled to download them.
