Hi all, i was reading about a software decrypter DeCSS that descrabbles DVD's on a PC. It was saying before this, there were dvd ripping utilities out there that would use the DVD playback software to render the movie, then it would grab the video from there. I was wondering what programs utilize the direct decrypting of the DVD rather than some intermediate step like the dvd playback software. Thanx

signatures are like underwear, you should change them once a month

It sounds like you're asking about ripping directly from the DVD... (any other way would be archaic) if that's the case them you need to read one of the guides available on this site.
I suggest you check out this one:

covers everything including the basic ripping software SMARTRIPPER, Frame Serving with DVD2AVI, and encoding with TMGPENC. -
