It's a straight forward guide for those who are just getting started
    with burning/backing up DVD's.

nice looking guide - but you tell people to use maestro and cce 2.64 (which is a bit buggy) and to buy them , well that is an expensive proposition for most and in the case of maestro - it is no longer available.

What is needed by a lot of people is a guide using common easy to purchase or freeware inexpensive tools , otherwise we would all be guilty of advocating the procurement of software through not so legal means.

non the less - thank you for your guide ..

true, i will be adding a tmpgenc section shortly. Maestro is avaible, one just needs to look around for it. And since it's no longer avalible for purchase and or support... I don't think thats really procuring it illegally.
Just need to locate it.. which isn't very hard.

I might take a look at what else is out there - ulead , etc and if they work, I'll add them to the tutorial as well.

    thanks

  4. Regarding DVD9 to DVDR,

That's almost identical to the process I used last time, except I ripped in FILE mode after changing the settings to rip only 1 angle. Otherwise, I had some problems in Matrix, and I burned with RecordNow Max instead of Nero (reported by most to be more successful.)

note - Pulldown is only needed for NTSC users.

You can substitute TMPGenc for CCE. And I prefer to burn with RecordNow Max.

In addition to the commercial and unavailable software required for this method, and the quality loss due to reencoding (which is understood and acceptable), the other downside of this method is that you lose your menus, extras, subs. Of course, you can make your own in Maestro. This may or may not matter.

For a straight single layer copy, I just read and write ISO directly in DVD Decryptor.

Note - In Nero, DVD Video mode is not recommended. Most people have better luck using UDF/ISO, ISO9660, restrictions unchecked, no joliet, and UDF 1.02.

Subs, extras and menus aren't of much interest to me personally, since
I never view/use them - however, I suspect some people like to keep them, I just never saw the point.

Nero has been pretty good to me thus far. I've not had a coaster or a unplayed disc yet, but those are good points.

that is advocating warez - which is not allowed on this board.. i understand people's frustration in that this was one of the best authoring programs available and apple effectivly killed it ... the fact does remain that it is still copyrighted work and apple owns the rights. plus when it was available - it was a bloody expensive program.

if apple released it again - which at this point is looking doubtfull, and sold it at a resonable cost - it would be the top seller in its market.

i sent apple 2 emails regarding this last year and got no other response than "we can not discuss products in possable development" . hell - what developement , it works as is.

Wait a second.. this board needs a little reality on check on the whole "warez" issue.

On one hand every shouts about not advocating warez, but in the same breath asks "how can I make a copy of this DVD?"

Yeah, back-ups, I'm sure thats what were all doing here. Piracy is piracy, you can't file it in little containers and say "this kind is ok, but don't talk about that kind".
