DIVX....to Vcd...guide me please

i recently downloaded a movie,and its in AVI..my friend said she heard ppl talking that u gotta Rebuild The Index of the file..(the file name is Queen Of The Damned DVD rip dvl.avi) DVL??? whats the dvl exactly? but i know this file is DIVX..so i tried rebuilding Index with Virtual Dub,but instead..i got this error message :

"Couldnt lcoate the Decompressor for "DIV3"(Microsoft High Speed MPEG - 4 V3 [hack : DIVX Low- Motion]

Virtual Dub Requires A Video For Windows (VFW) Compatible codec to decompress Video,direct shoe codecs Like the ones Windows Media Player uses are not suitable"

But Imn ot here to decompress im here to rebuild the index of that AVI File...im confused an i dont know what to do..pls help

my goal is to:
to convert The WHOLE movie to VCD (MPEG-1) so that i have a high quality version of the movie in VCD..


But since i have to do more things in order to even WATCH the movie in m ycomputer..i gotta get some help on Rebulding the Index..

Explain to me what DIVX is...what AVI is...What the INDEX is...and why should i rebuild it first in order to watch it..

you need the divx codec. you can find it in the tools section on this site. then you can use tmpgenc to convert the file to mpg for vcd.

Oh That DIVX Codec 3.11 ? i tried downloaidng it from the page in linked to...i didnt get anything..its like a broken link in it..u scroll ur cursor there and look at ur IE status bar below..it has the link to that Zip file..but when u click it nothing happends HELP! Anyway..where should i put those coderc after i downloaded them? i have TMPGEnc as Encoder..and Virtual Dub As my editor...the page doesnt really have those link..most of em Return me note like "The Page ur trying to access Cannot Be Found etc..

Oh That page..i've been there as well...im downloading DIVX Pro...but not exactly from the page...from Downloads.com thre names DIVX Pro Bundle 3.11 izzit the one im looking 4?

u know as in a software i use to rebuild its index then convert it to mpeg -1? what does it do?

you don't need to rebuild the index. just install the codecs. it should work once you do that.

divx? just unzip to any location and run the .exe file. that installs it. btw, what time is it over there in malaysia?

no not yet..waht do u expect..im on 56k lol.. im downloading the 4x...cause someone on vcdhelp say u need 3.11 4x and 5x DIVX Codecs!

56k? man, i remember that.
it's not mandatory but it is better to have the newest version of anything. myself, i prefer divx 4.
