  1. I have the Cendyne 104 drive (A04) and would like a recomendation on a good cheap media. I know that sounds like an oxy moron but I have heard of people getting media for around .60 and doing fine. I'm willing to buy 50 CD spindles without cases as I have plenty of thin jewel cases. www.newegg.com sells alot of stuff and I trust them. Any other sites and media recomendations?

Goto the media section on the left and look for the Ritek G03 disk, at about $1 each in bulk they are the best media I have found for the price as far as quality and reliability go. I've used about 50 so far with only oen bad, and it was when I burned at 2x with the hacked firmware.

Many say they burn 2x just fine but my first attempte failed so 1x cheap media is fine by me. BTW I have the DVR-A04

  3. I've burned at least 25 Ritek G3's with no problems and perfect playback in my standalone player.

www.supermediastore.com has them for .83 cents each in bulk.

  5. I HAVE burnt 75 ritek purple about $1 each on home dvd recorder panasonic dmr-e30.so far 10 coasters out of the 75.
i dont know if it was panasonic or the dvd disks themselves.
NOW,I do have these 10 disks recorded in dvdr format and work in the panasonic dvd recorder as dvdr.but it wont finalize and obviously it is not a dvd video anymore.they gave the messege saying on my panasonic home dvd recorder, finalizing failed cannot finalize.
anyone know anyway around this at all?if i can someway finalize these disks that i call coasters since its not good as dvd video, but will work as dvdr.
btw, ritek dvd disks seem to be good disks so far.i have burnt 75 and i use them on my 300 dvd changer(sony 875)i am in heaven with the changer.most all home movies are converted to dvd and are in the dvd changer.easier life now.

I use verbatim and have been buying them on Ebay. Normally the 15 pack costs $45 in stores but i have been getting them for around $26-30 shipped. I think i might try the Riteks too but for now the verbatim work great and are priced right.

  8. Oh ya, they have 1.4 firmware now. Theres nothing wrong with that is there? It says once you load 1.4 you cant revert back to older versions.

I've had decent results trying to burn the at 2x, so I burn them at 1x everytime, rock solid disk that way.

But like I said others say they are great at 2x... so it can't hurt to give it a try yourself.

Whats the advantage of upgrading the firmaware? There is a program from the link above where you can downlaod and it will check the firmware. I have 1.32 and have beening burning fine with that so i wont plan to upgrade yet...

  11. My ao4 has firmware version 1.2
I ordered the upgrade from pioneer but it is 1.4 I have not upgraded it yet and do not plan to do so till the discs I am using are out, Just incase it makes my current discs not burn

anyone know if the ritek discs work on version 1.2 I won't bother to upgrade

Speed is not important to me just not burning up my dvdwriter by putting high speed disks in it is. From my understanding that is all the upgrade is for. That is what the woman I spoke to on the phone from pioneer said anyway.

What firmware revision are you running on your Pioneer drive? I understand that it alone can make or break media compatibility.
