  1. Hi all. I have been trying to convert an NTSC movie to PAL using TMPEGEnc. I make the D2v file etc as you normally would and then load that up in TMPEG, select the PAL DVD (because thats what I'm encoding) Template hit go etc etc. After 40 hours or so it finishes but the problem is that when I play it back it kind of keeps stopping for a split second every 3 seconds or so. I you happened to notice that It was doing it ,it would be bloody annoying coz after you've seen it happen once you can't help but keep seeing it after that.
What is the Problem do you think or is it just something that happens when you convert from NTSC to PAL
    Thanx

Ahhhh the dreaded NTSC to PAL glitching, the problem is because of the method TMPEGEnc uses to do framerate conversion. By just outputting one frame twice for every second of video (presuming you are going from 23.976fps to 25fps) it does correct the framerate but you are going to see the "ticking" as these two identical frames are shown.

Fortunately there is an easy way around this because your DVD player can play NTSC titles with PAL output all you have to do is make NTSC discs. Easy as pie.

Another simple method is to simply alter the info in the AVI header to 25 fps, and then encode as PAL. OK, the movie will play a little faster, but not noticably so.

    Oddbud77,
My DVD player will accept NTSC but my TV wont accept the signal, only get a crap black and white picture, it's what us Brits have to put up with.

I'd like to know more about changing the info in the avi header? a couple of times had to convert to 25fps with virtualdub, but then had to compress the sound by the same ratio to get syncing. Wot u mean?
