  1. i was having a lot of trouble with memento. conversion was a pain, the sound was afu, and my source was in pal format.. i wanted to try sumthin out so heres what i did. i used the source range filter on tmpgenc to line the auido up (-900ms for those that care), i resized to ntsc resolution, 352x240 (i think), but i left the frame rate at 25. i did this because people were always complaining that the converted ntsc movie had jerks from the extra frames added, and i wondered if i could play it as is.

i can, and it actually is one of my better looking movies so far. the next time i run across a pal source vid, i will definitely use this method.

question: should this have worked? my jvc stand alone (xv-s40bk) isnt the best at playin things, supposedly is region locked (although i did try to unlock it with the codes from another player), wont play svcd at all... but it played this like a champ. all on 1 disk at that.. heh heh

you're right about jvc - i've got the 523gd and it'll play just about any non-standard XVCD i can throw at it.

about your method. why bother resizing the PAL source from 352x288 to 352x240 for your final VCD? once you've got the audio/video sync issue squared away, leave the rez at 352x288. the increased lines should provide a slightly better looking video. i'm sure the jvc will play a 352x288, 25fps (PAL???) VCD...

actually, as he says he's putting a whole movie on one disc, using only 240 lines, at 25 fps makes sense. this way the stream has less frames to produce (25 instead of 30) or less lines to produce (240, instead of 288 ) depending on how you look at it. this reduction in required data, should mean a clearer, less blocky image.
