I don't find any specific information on this, but is it possible to rip only certain scenes from a DVD? Let's say you only want to grab 10 minutes of a certain movie, would you be able to rip those 10 minutes or would you have to just use an external DVD player and capture device? Any ideas would be appreciated.
BTW, first post, great site, keep up the good work!

Hello bl2003,
Welcome to the forum. I'm kinda new at this too, so maybe more experienced individuals can steer us straight.
As far as ripping only certain scenes fom a dvd, the closest I have come to accomplishing this is to use Smartripper. Once Smartripper opens it will unlock your dvd (or at least try to) and on the center of window it will automatically choose the full movie (all of the chapters have checks next to them). Click the none button and then click each individual chapter you want to rip. If all of your settings are correct it will rip just those chapters into a new vob file on your computer. Demux it with VOBrator. Now you will have a video file (m2v) and one or more audio files. To be able to edit further (less than the full chapter) I am unsure of how. If you don't care about sound you could edit just the video with TMPGEnc's MPEG Tools (perhaps you can also do it with the ac3 audio by multiplexing the video and audio into an mpeg2, but I haven't tried it yet).
Perhaps there is a better or more straight forward answer to your question that someone could enlighten us with. Goodluck and read the forums there is a wealth of information here if you can find it.

flaskmpeg and gordian knot will.(once ripped to the hard drive)
those two are the the ones i've used.i'm sure other programs will to.
flaskmpeg being the easier one to use.heres a guide, just change the codecs to the ones you want to use and delete job1 which is the whole dvd and set the arrows by hitting the l_ _l and 'add'
