hate to burst your bubble but DiVX is also mpeg , its just a type of mpeg4 instead of 1 or 2 ....

do you like DVD quality ? that is mpeg2 , which can be pretty good.
VCD is mpeg1 which is considered about the quality of VHS.

SVCD is also mpeg2 , same as dvd , but at lower bit rate and different image size (or same if some types of xVCD) ..

DiVX can run the range of really good to really really poor - same as ANY mpeg file (even mpeg1 can look great) ..

But Mpeg4 (which includes DiVX, wmv , QT (some), and some other formats generally compresses more than mpeg2

there is even different types of DiVX and i think its still argued which version is better.

  3. Well, if you like mpeg4, why not stick to it?...

SVCDs can be about the same quality, depeding on bitrates, encoding, codecs and all used in the comparison divx movie... Some people prefer one, some prefer the other.

All DivX isn't good, look at 99.5% of those on the web, you'll see.

I mainly stick to DivX, and some CVDs and SVCDs, depending on what I am encoding...

    Cheers
