  1. I recently got Road to Perdition as an AVI encoded with xVID video codec. I used ULEAD Movie Factory to encode it as an Mpeg, but upon completion I notice that the resolution had changed. The original AVI was 576 x 240 and the mpg that I encoded is now 720 x 480. I then burnt it to a DVD (Sony DRU-110A) using Sonic MyDVD. When I play it in my Sharp DV-750, it plays in full screen stretching the movie. I tried to goto the setup menu for my dvd player but the option to change it to widescreen was disabled. Ive tried re-encoding the AVI using TMPGenc Plus but everytime the programs either exits, or I get tons of error messages. Ive tried all the tutorials on vcdhelp and many other different settings but everytime I get the same result, which are error messages. Ive also tried many other Mpeg encoders but they all fail as well. With all the programs I have used, Honestech.MPEG.Encoder.v3 told me that I dont have the right codec to decode the video, but I know thats bull shit because I have the XVID codec, I am able to watch the original avi. I believe the original encoding of the avi is the problem and that xvid is the source of my despair. All I really want to do is burn the movie to a DVD-RW in widescreen format and actually have it show up as Widescreen on my DVD player. I hope all the information I have provided will be useful to anyone who is willing to help me out.

It's a wild guess but try virtualdub. I know you can change the screen resolutions there. It's in the pulldown menu of video. Select the option filters, push the add button and finally the filter to change screen resolutions (I think it's called resize). If you've been able to change it you must leave vitualdub running, by selecting the file option and finally start frame server. Then use TPMGEnc using the saved *vdr file.

It's a guess, but might work.
