  1. I have an "SVCD Compatible" MPEG file that I authored in Studio 8.
I tried to write the file to my HP 200j using the "How to make a SVCD with Nero 5.0+", but after the burn process starts I get a "Power calibration error".
I've looked through all the Nero and HP help files and many topics here.
    Can anyone offer some help?
    Thanks!

  2. Does NERO work if you burn a regular Data disc ? or does it only give you a
problem when you try authoring a VCD/SVCD ?

  3. I tried data and copying and neither worked!
I closed Nero and tried using the HP RecordNow only to find that not working either.
I went thru the HP troubleshoot... behold the answer: The drive won't write to 80 minute CDs!
I should have suspected that. I just bought a stack of them.
anyway, I'm out of 74s so I can't keep trying.

    Thanks for the help!

  4. You gotta be kidding me ???
    I Recall the HP 8100 wasn't able to burn on 80min CDR's, I found a Sony
    patch to make it burn.

That's why I hate HP! crappy drives, I can't believe it won't even support an
80min CDR! that's ridicules!! I say return the drive and get something else!!

  5. Here's an update on this last posting:

I've had it with this HP 200j, it really is a piece of crap.
I dug my ancient Sony Spressa CD writer out and re-installed it, it burns great CDs, slow, but sure.
The HP still does write to DVD-R/W, and that's the only reason I haven't put it on my driveway and run over it with my car! As soon as my budget allows, it WILL be replaced.
Sinse Jan 1, I tried pretty much everything. Too late to return it to the store... It just won't burn ANY type/brand/size of CD-R. I emailed HP support, they claim (from what I can understand of their replys) that it will write to 80min CDs with THEIR software BUT, it's a little fussy about the brand. What a bunch of hogwash.

From here I am going to the rest of my venting in the "DVD Writers" user comments.

  6. sorry, one more comment.
After reading some other HP writer woes in the DVD Writers comments, I found a new comment from someone with the same problems as me.
My HP gem wouldn't recognize the HP CD-RW that came packaged with it either.
